An Evening with Laura Joy

Saturday, May 26, 07:00 PM - Saturday, May 26, 09:00 PM

Categories: Music

Laura’s unique style of poetic, acoustic pop, which has been described as “folk music so pretty you’ll have to stop your ears from floating away,” (thefreegeorge.com), has earned her invitations to open for artists including Hammel on Trial, poet Staceyann Chin, Switchback, and Greg Brown, as well as being awarded as a top finalist in the Broward Folk Club Songwriter Competition in Fort Lauderdale, FL in January, 2013.

As a fixture at Midwestern festivals, Laura explains that she loves the scene because, “you never know what’s going to happen or who’s going to show up. One time I looked out at the audience and realized there were more dogs than humans. That was a neighborhood pet festival. But I’d say there’s almost a 100% guarantee a few little kids will push their way up to the front and start dancing. That’s the kind of family friendly I am, and it’s my favorite. And honestly, off-stage is where the magic happens. You get to know people, other musicians, fans… especially if everyone’s camping and making music together.”

An Evening with Izaak Opatz

Friday, June 01, 07:00 PM - Friday, June 01, 09:00 PM

Categories: Music

Izaak Opatz is a mountain man (from Montana)! He works in National Parks, cutting trails through the woods, probably wearing a vest or a funny hat and crapping in holes in the ground. He goes weeks on end without seeing another single person. When he does finally wander into town, he usually comes back with a pack-mule-donkey-satchel-thing chock full of songs about women that he’s been dreaming of, places where he used to be happy, situations he screwed up… really dipping into a well of memories that are probably better left alone.

His songs teeter on the edge of sentimental-songwriter’y-sad-n-lonely stuff. This is a tough area for a songwriter to inhabit, because it’s easy to get lumped in the with the rest of the middle aged losers at the open mic night, but you hear the songs and you’ll be won over immediately. You watch him play and you’ll wish he’d never stop. You talk to him for a minute and you’ll offer up your prettiest daughter and welcome him into your family.

Caroline Keys is a multi-talented musician, writer, teacher and artist from Montana. Her most recent album is 2016’s ‘Mean To Stay’.
