What is Yankton Area Arts?

A 40-year-old, nonprofit organization with a mission to educate, advocate, and enrich Yankton by integrating the arts within the community. Yankton Area Arts is a membership driven organization with a very modest, hardworking board of directors. Memberships with Yankton Area Arts have made an impact on the culture and economy of our community by making possible Yankton Area Arts’ preservation of the historic GAR Hall and by bolstering Yankton Area Arts’ enrichment programming, including: Youth/Adult Art Classes & Program (Kids Studio, Art Adventure, Artist Unleashed, and Art of Healing), Annual Kids’ Art Fest, Annual Artists in Residencies, Annual Summer Concert Series (13 concerts), Annual High School Art Scholarships, Annual Summer Arts Festival, Annual Community Art Installations (Before I Die 2012, Eyes for the Arts 2013-14, and Modify Dotify 2015). Yankton Area Arts is housed in the historic GAR Hall on Douglas Avenue. Inside the grand hall is a quaint art gallery with exhibits rotating every six weeks, featuring the artwork of local and regional artists, as well as a gift shop that is open year round. Past exhibits include personalized drawings, artwork by students from Yankton High School, aerial photography, quilts, photography featuring the Mighty Missouri River, watercolor, sculpture, and a brand new exhibit highlighting Yankton Area Arts’ enrichment programming. In addition to our regular programs, Yankton Area Arts hosts the annual Tour of Homes, Crimson Door Holiday Boutique, and Meridian en Blanc.
