Qualifications:

Licenses and Certifications: 

Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota. Must have, or be able to achieve, a Master's Degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing or Masters of Science in Nursing Administration or its equivalent.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have: 

The preferred candidate will have knowledge of the legal scope and standards of nursing practice, substantial behavioral health and leadership experience.



Responsibilities:

The Department of Social Services is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Director of Nursing for the Human Services Center. The selected leader will be responsible for providing oversight over all behavioral health clinical nursing services at HSC. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for the planning, organization, direction, supervision and evaluation of all the nursing services provided in the facility. The Director of Nursing will work closely with the Administrator, Medical Director and Director of Clinical Services to assure excellence in the quality of patient care services.

The Human Services Center is a licensed in-patient state psychiatric hospital and substance use disorder treatment facility with 277 beds which provides services for acute, psychiatric rehabilitation, geriatric, and adolescent patients.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • monitor and direct nursing services;
  • develop, interpret, and direct policies and procedures governing the nursing function;
  • maintain current knowledge of applicable regulations and standards;
  • evaluate ongoing nursing practices, assess need for changes and performance improvement;
  • supervision and operational oversight of various ancillary departments.
