EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 1. An Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Mechanical Drafting Engineering Technology or equivalent to a two-Year College or Technical School. 2. Experience using AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor or comparable drafting software a plus. 3. Previous experience in Mechanical Drafting or related field may be used in lieu of education. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 1. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages 2. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry. SUMMARY: The individual will participate in the creation, storage, and distribution of design layouts as well as all technical data in the engineering department in support of product development, product improvements, and other departments that use technical data as a resource. This position is preferred to have an associate's degree in a related area, although not required, field experience is a plus. This position requires a detailed oriented individual capable of handling several concurrent tasks, ranging from CAD drafting, R&D testing, problem solving, product modifications, product development and product installation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.) • Will assist the product application design function with all of its duties and responsibilities. • Must have good time management skills to be able to manage a wide range of diversified projects. • Uses Inventor software to prepare accurate layout drawings, orthographic drawings and pictorial drawings. • Uses programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel to produce accurate and complete paperwork prior to submission. • Uses sophisticated measuring instruments like calipers or micrometers to assess dimensional conformance to print. • Must communicate effectively with inside and outside resources such as vendors, customers, and all department heads and their subordinates as needed to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. • Participates in investigations in support of the Engineering Change Notification (ECN) process or to purify technical data as required. • Maintains accurate and complete project records (files) as well as an organized project schedule to keep several assigned projects visible and active at one time and must account for progress or lack of progress. • Must be willing to learn and work all phases of a design project to include but not limited to research, design layouts, selection of standard and to specify vendor parts, tolerance evaluation, proto-type assembly and installation, procurement and assessment of test information, establishing costs, arranging structure for weldments, assemblies and packaging, examining production processes, inspecting technical data for accuracy, defining tool requirements, problem investigation and product installation and demonstration. • Must continuously exercise discretion and good judgment while performing all job related functions and keeps supervisor informed of job related problems and other information related to work activity. • Must be able to use shop tool to perform R&D test stand setup(s) and teardown(s) of various products for testing as well as being able to perform product installs on site at all customer levels in and out of house. • May travel by ground or air, alone or with others, such as sales personnel to customer locations and trade shows to better understand product application/installation/training, performance and user needs. • Maintains a positive work attitude and promotes a “TEAM” approach throughout the department. • Performs other duties when required or requested.
