Applicants must be 18 years of age, a high school diploma or GED and the ability to pass Class 1 certification exam in water treatment at the completion of one year of directly related water plant operation experience. Must have the ability to obtain a Class 4 certification within 10 years and maintain certification level through continuing education requirements set by the State.
Responsible for routine maintenance and repair of plant and pump equipment under the direction of the plant supervisor and plant superintendents; checking dosages and feed rates on chemical feed equipment; adding chemicals to maintain proper feed rates and adjusting chemical balances; monitoring water quality through on-site laboratory analysis; understanding EPA and DENR regulations ; operating lawn and snow equipment to maintain facility grounds.
This positions works M-F, 7 am-4 pm, except every fourth week, which is 11 am - 7 pm. This position is also required to work every fourth weekend and alternating holiday. This position is required to be on-call for one week at a time, where they are expected to respond to after-hours water treatment and water distribution emergencies when needed. Extra compensation is provided for on-call hours. Employees of the water/wastewater plans are required to live within 15 miles of the legal corporate limits of the City. Individuals who live more than 15 miles outside the city limits, may make application for employment. However, if selected, you shall be required to comply with this policy with 120 days of employment. Candidates must possess a valid Class B with air brakes SD commercial drivers' license or be able to obtain one within 120 days of hire.
