Mead Grand Reopening Events Begin This Week

A local preservation project nearly 10 years in the making comes to fruition this week with the opening of the historic Mead building.
The official opening of Yankton’s Mead Cultural Education Center is set for this week, with scheduled tours, a ribbon cutting and Christmas-oriented activities.
It’s been nearly 10 years since the buildings on the South Dakota Human Serves Center campus, including the Mead building, were listed among America’s 11 most endangered historic places by the national Trust for Historic preservation.

"I know it was a pretty big factor in my decision. South Dakota State offered a much lower tuition rate than Iowa State, the other school I was looking at," Griesse said.

For one person in KELOLAND, that's becoming a reality.
Twenty-one-year old Amanda Halsey is the manager and co-owner of Avenue Coffee House in Yankton. Not only can you find coffee there, Halsey also brings in local businesses and talent.
"Those people who attend and go to their offices or school and tell their friends how cool it was, it's kind of like a secret right now and people are really seeming to enjoy the ideas of what we have to offer," Halsey said.
